Please join us for a gala dinner celebrating the centennial of Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning. Our event will take place at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2006 in the Gilbert S. Omenn Atrium of the stunning new Biomedical Sciences Research Building designed by Polshek Partnership Architects.
We will listen to songs performed by alumni/ae composed especially for the occasion and sing "Happy Birthday" to TCAUP. We will hear from the dean and the new provost, and screen a new documentary on the college; as well as honor Deans Emeriti Bob Metcalf and Bob Beckley.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD
Robert Metcalf FAIA, B.Arch.A.'50 has been an important
member of the college community for over half
a century—as student, alumnus, faculty, and leader.
Shortly after graduation, Bob joined the faculty, one
which was increasingly pluralistic and enthusiastically
embraced new traditions of architectural research. He
served as a respected member of the faculty, as chair
of the architecture program, and as dean of the
College of Architecture + Urban Planning. As the
architect of scores of residences, he has a reputation
for design excellence and carefully crafted details.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Robert Beckley FAIA has admirably served his professional
community and the university, as well as local,
regional, national, and international causes. Bob was
very active in the Association of Collegiate Schools of
Architecture (ACSA) and served several terms on its
board including terms as treasurer and president. He
has also served on the executive committee of the
National Architectural Accrediting Board; on the
White House Council on Design; the National
Endowment for the Arts; the Arts Foundation of
Michigan Advisory Board; and Habitat for Humanity. |
