UM responds to Hurricane Katrina
President
Coleman's message to the UM Community
Alternative Spring Break for UM Students
The University of Michigan community has responded with concern and caring to
the plight of those affected by Hurricane Katrina. In addition to
fundraising efforts by students, faculty, and staff, UM has admitted approximately
50 students from Tulane and University of New Orleans whose studies have been
interrupted by Katrina. About half a dozen of these are at TCAUP. The Edward
Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning,
directed by Margaret Dewar, Emil Lorch Professor of Architecture + Urban Planning,
is organizing alternative spring break programs for UM students to assist in
the ongoing rebuilding efforts.
