The History/Theory area, which has recently begun to grow in size, has traditionally produced a small number of graduates. Most PhD graduates join academic institutions, where they often, based on a previous professional degree, develop a teaching portfolio that combines history/theory courses with design studio. Students in the MSc program have continued into the doctoral program at UM, have left to pursue a PhD at another university, or have returned to architectural practice.
