Preferred Admissions

Taubman College has developed a program directed toward a limited number of highly-qualified entering freshmen who are interested in transferring to the Architecture Program during their junior year to obtain the bachelor of science degree. Only applicants to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LS&A) or the School of Art & Design (A&D) are eligile for preferred admissions. In order to be considered for the preferred admissions program, candidates must:

  1. Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  2. Achieve a total SAT I score of 1300 (Math + Reading) or ACT composite of 29 or higher
  3. Indicate on their application that they are interested in the preferred admissions program in Architecture
  4. Be admitted to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts or the School of Art & Design

Students should apply for admission in LS&A or A&D and indicate they are interested in the preferred admissions program in Architecture. If the student is accepted into LS&A or A&D and granted preferred admissions status, they are guaranteed admission to junior year of Taubman College, provided they maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 and complete the prerequisite courses specified for the freshman and sophomore years and earn a minimum of 60 credit hours.

Taubman College will contact students requesting preferred admission shortly after LS&A or A&D makes an admission decision.

Transfer students to UM are not eligible for preferred admissions. Participation in the preferred admissions program does not guarantee acceptance to the graduate program.

Please note: all preferred admit students are required to complete the application process as a cross campus transfer applicant (even though they are currently UM students). Preferred admits will not be reviewed competitively for admission but reviewed only for merit-based scholarships. Admission is guaranteed for preferred admits that have met the cumulative GPA requirement of 3.0, but it is not automatic, so an application must be submitted.
