Building Design Workshops
Since 1994, Michigan faculty and students have designed and built a series of projects on the university campus. Many of these structures are within the Art and Architecture Building and used by faculty, staff, and students. These projects are "real" in the sense that they require students to meet with clients and building officials internal and external to the university, understand the codes and laws that apply to their projects, generate alternatives based upon cost estimates and budgets, and monitor the process and timing of delivery. Often, the students are involved hands-on in the fabrication of projects from the initial generative conceptualization of the design.
