2001: Grand River
The word Grand crops up often in Detroit area place names. Perhaps it is a product of eras flush with confidence and big ideas. Grand River Avenue, the remnant of an old Native American trail, extends to Lansing. It once provided an efficient commute to the more remote neighborhoods of the city as well as providing lively commercial areas for local residents. It was with aspirations of reviving that urban vibrancy that the Detroit Design Charrette set out to visualize new developments for the Grand River corridor.
