West Stadium Blvd detours
The city of Ann Arbor is scheduled to resume the West Stadium Boulevard reconstruction project next week. Last summer the project rebuilt West Stadium between Maple and Liberty. This year they will continue south from Liberty to Pauline. WESTBOUND PAULINE CLOSED APRIL 3-8 Next week (April 3 -- 8), the city is scheduled to close westbound traffic on Pauline Boulevard at Stadium. Westbound traffic will be detoured at West Stadium to Liberty to Maple. This one-week closure will allow installation of a water main. SOUTHBOUND STADIUM CLOSED APRIL 10 -- NOVEMBER The main portion of the West Stadium reconstruction is scheduled to begin April 10. Two lanes of northbound traffic on West Stadium will be maintained throughout the project. However, southbound traffic on West Stadium will be closed from Liberty to Pauline. Traffic will be detoured west on Liberty to Maple to Pauline. More information about the project can be viewed on the city's website at http://www.ci.ann-arbor.mi.us/PublicServices/ProjectManagement/Stadium/Stadium.html Additionally, three Ann Arbor Transportation Authority routes will be impacted by the project. Routes 8 -- Pauline, 12UL -- Liberty-University and 15 -- Scio Church-West Stadium will be altered for the duration of the project. For more information, view the AATA website at www.theride.org or call 734/996-0400.
Fletcher Parking Sturcture Renovation
FLETCHER PARKING STRUCTURE RENOVATION The Fletcher Street parking structure will be closed for renovation from May through September each of the next two years. Some preliminary work has resulted in approximately 60 parking spaces being closed immediately. Motorcycle parking on the east side of the Fletcher structure also has been closed. Alternative motorcycle parking is available near the LSI Building dock off Washtenaw Avenue. For more information about the structure renovation project, please see details below or visit the Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) web site at www.pts.umich.edu. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as this vital renovation work restores an important parking location. Driveway access change on April 10 On April 10, the up-ramp to the Fletcher Street parking structure patient parking area will be closed and the patient parking entry/exit will be relocated to Level 5 (just like it is during the Summer Festival). Though patients will be utilizing the main structure entry/exit, their parking area will remain in its present location through April. Therefore, no Gold or Blue parking spaces will be converted. The Fletcher Street access gates will be turned off and monitors will be stationed at the entrance to help control traffic and prevent illegal parkers from entering the structure. Due to the increased traffic through the Fletcher Street entrance/exit, we encourage Blue and Gold permit parkers to access the Fletcher structure from the Palmer Street entrance/exit. Structure to close on May 1 On May 1, the structure will be closed to all parkers. Patient parking will be relocated to the Palmer Structure visitor area. Gold and Blue handicapped parking spaces will be increased in the Palmer permit parking section as needed. Drivers parking in the visitor parking area will be required to pay; U-M parking permits are not honored in visitor parking areas. The pedestrian connector between Level 3 of the Palmer Drive parking structure and Level 4 of the Fletcher structure also will be closed. There will be no pedestrian access through the Fletcher deck. Instead, pedestrian access from the Palmer structure to Fletcher Street will be provided via a temporary walkway across the Fletcher Plaza. See www.pts.umich.edu for pedestrian wayfinding information. Patient drop-off and pick-up will continue to be available on the Fletcher structure plaza. A monitor will assist with access. Consider other transportation options Though we have worked with our renovation contractor to schedule these repairs in such a manner as to reduce the disruption to Central Campus parkers, we understand this structure closure will create increased demand in other parking locations. We encourage parkers to consider other parking and transit options. See the PTS website for a list of alternatives www.pts.umich.edu. If you return your Blue parking device, you will save approximately $45 per month. If you keep your Blue AVI device, remember that it also is honored in the Yellow and Orange parking areas. Parking and Transportation Services staff will be at the Palmer Commons, plaza level, on Wednesday, May 3, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm to assist permit holders in returning their parking permits or exchanging for other options. Structure to re-open in fall 2006 Patient parking is scheduled to return to the Fletcher Structure plaza level by Sept. 1, 2006. Blue and Gold permit parking on levels 4 and 5 is scheduled to re-open no later than Sept. 26. The remainder of the structure will re-open in October. If the renovation efforts proceed without complications, the re-opening dates may be earlier. New structure scheduled to open July 1 The new Ann Street Parking Structure is scheduled to open July 1. This structure will provide 530 parking spaces. Spaces on the ground level will provide designated motorcycle parking, bicycle racks, parking for University Business and Service vehicles and a small number of visitor spaces. AVI gates inside the structure will control access to the 500 permit parking spaces located on the upper levels. The structure will be connected to the Catherine Street Parking Structure at the ground level and at the top of the Catherine structure.
