BET Lab now 24/7 through end of term
On a trial basis, through the end of the semester, the BET Lab (shown in this map) is extending its hours of operation to 24/7. To accommodate both the needs of BET faculty and students, who use the Lab for teaching and access to specialized BET software, and this extended use trial here are the guidelines:

1) Check the schedule posted on the BET Lab door to be sure no classes or other scheduled activities have reserved the space -- the Lab is not available when these activities are scheduled.

2) Until 7:30 pm, if all machines in the Lab are in use, a BET student needing access to a machine has priority; again, some BET software is only available in this Lab. After 7:30 all machines are first-come, first-served.

3) Machines provided by the College are intended primarily to support interactive use, particularly this time of year when computers are at a premium. Machines left unattended for 30 minutes should be consider available for use but please be considerate and save any work before logging a person out; machines left unattended before scheduled classes may not have this 30-minute grace period.

4) There need to be some common sense limits on rendering; the Lab isn't intended to be a render farm. Rendering isn't prohibited but, to provide for as much direct use as possible, don’t render till the sun goes down (ie. no rendering during the day) and remember that machines have to remain available for interactive use.

5) Be considerate and drop off bottles, cans, food wrappers... on the way out of the Lab. Food isn't prohibited in College labs and the 2nd floor Windows lab (the A&A Campus Computing Site) is a good example that having a 24-hour lab doesn't mean things end up getting messy.

Outdoor siren testing Tuesday
UM Faculty, Staff and Students:
The monthly tests of the outdoor warning sirens by the city of Ann Arbor Office of Emergency Management are scheduled to begin this month. The tests are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month (except during winter months) at 1pm.
Therefore, the sirens are scheduled to be tested tomorrow (April 11) at 1pm.
The siren system is intended to be used as a warning for people who are outside that bad weather is approaching. The sirens also can be used in cases of hazardous materials spills or other life threatening events. For more information, please visit the City of Ann Arbor Siren Web Page:
