  Mariinskii Palace
The Mariia (Mariinskii) Palace, by Andrei I. Shtakenshneider, 1839–44 was built for Grand Duchess Mariia, daughter of Nicholas I. The medals in the niches of the attic are awards given to Leningrad, including Hero City of the USSR for its stand against the Germans in WWII. The nearby Blue Bridge at 100 meters wide is the widest bridge in St. Petersburg.
