Urban Design Faculty Member or
Professor of Practice
The Urban Design Program seeks a tenured or tenure-track faculty member or professor of practice to teach urban design. Applicants should have a professional design or planning degree (M.Arch., M.U.P., M.L.A., M.U.D. or their equivalent) and experience in urban design, architecture, urban landscape architecture and/or urban planning. A doctoral degree would be considered favorably but is not expected.
The Taubman College at the University of Michigan offers a one-year post-professional Master of Urban Design Degree that was started in 2001 and draws students from around the world with backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture, and planning. The college offers seven undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architecture, urban planning, and urban design as well as a graduate certificate in real estate development. Accordingly, expertise in these topics and others such as urban sustainability, infrastructure, transit, or community design is desirable. The college also collaborates with other units on campus, including joint faculty appointments and joint degrees with Engineering, Natural Resources and Environment, Business, Public Policy, Law, and other schools and colleges. The appointment may be in one or more academic units.
The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer.
Applicants should send a letter explaining interest in the position and qualifications, a curriculum vitae, and names of three references. Review of applications is continuous, starting in October 2007.
