Faculty Appointment in
Real Estate Development

The Urban and Regional Planning Program at the University of Michigan seeks to make a faculty appointment in real estate development; rank will be determined on the basis of qualifications.

These qualifications could be an advanced academic degree and research accomplishments and publications, in which case the appointment will be tenure-track or tenured depending on the candidate's achievements. Alternatively, the appointment could be a "professor of practice," where the emphasis is on qualifications achieved in the course of professional activity.

We seek applicants to teach and conduct research in real estate analysis and development and to provide leadership for the University of Michigan Real Estate Program. The ability to also teach courses in urban planning or urban design is desirable. The possibility exists of a faculty affiliation, such as an adjunct appointment, with another school at the University of Michigan, e.g., the Ross School of Business or the Law School.

The Taubman College offers professional degrees in urban planning, architecture, and urban design as well as the Ph.D. in urban planning and in architecture. Applicants should have interest in educating both professionally-oriented students and future scholars and are expected to be widely recognized for their scholarly and/or creative and professional work. A Ph.D. in a field related to real estate development is desirable. For more information about the College, see http://www.tcaup.umich.edu.

The real estate initiative is spearheaded by Taubman College, and involves several other schools at the University of Michigan, including the Ross School of Business and the Law School. The certificate in real estate development, which enrolls approximately 50 graduate students, focuses on the making of well-designed, livable, and sustainable places that offer a high quality of life in mixed-use, compact, walkable, and transit-oriented built environments. The certificate gives students in any master's degree program at the University the opportunity to take a range of courses that deepen their knowledge and qualifications in real estate development and related fields. The real estate initiative, with a national advisory board of distinguished industry leaders, aims to strengthen the curriculum in real estate development at the University, conduct research in this interdisciplinary field, and enhance and reform professional practice. Executive education and a master's degree in real estate development are also being considered. For more information about the certificate and about the real estate initiative, visit http://www.tcaup.umich.edu/realestate/.
