Sojourner Truth Visiting Faculty Position

The Urban and Regional Planning Program in the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan seeks applications for the Sojourner Truth Visiting Faculty Position. The purpose of the position is to help bring issues of race, ethnicity, and social equity into curriculum, research, and creative work in the Program. Professors on sabbatical, faculty beginning teaching careers, students who are writing dissertations, reflective practitioners, and individuals at any other stages of their careers are invited to apply. Applicants should have interest in educating both professionally oriented students and future scholars and are expected to be committed to scholarly and/or creative and professional work; applicants from any discipline are welcome.
The Urban and Regional Planning Program offers a professional Master of Urban Planning as well as a Ph.D. The Program has about 130 master’s students and about 20 Ph.D. students in residence each year. The Program offers concentrations in transportation; land use and environmental planning; housing, community, and economic development; urban design and physical planning; and planning in developing countries. About one third of students are enrolled in dual degrees with Law, Business, Public Policy, Public Health, Social Work, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Natural Resources and Environment.

Sojourner Truth, a freed slave, became a leading abolitionist and feminist of the nineteenth century. One of her last major projects was an initiative to provide land to freed slaves. She was a resident of Michigan for the last 25 years of her life.
